Perfectly Clear – Book Review

Posted by: kjwinston on: January 6, 2009

sw-perfectly-clear-coverClear stamps – those see-through stamps you position on clear acrylic blocks – are the biggest thing since sliced bread in the rubber stamp world. In Perfectly Clear: Over 50 Great New Looks and Techniques for Using Autumn Leaves Clear Stamps! a dozen designers incorporate Autumn Leaves clear stamps in their scrapbook layouts. Many of the techniques were a revelation to me – a stamper of 8 or more years. Who knew you could stamp on felt? But Mellette Berezoski (page 7) has come up with a page that features cheery pink blossoms cut from felt and stamped with flower centers and petals. Delightful! Also very cool is Jennifer Pebbles‘ s (page 14) use of newspaper as background paper, ready for stamping. And did you know your stamps can “kiss”? Uh-huh! Check out this fabulous technique, explained by Jackie Bonette on page 23! Cardmakers, there is no reason you could not use dozens of these techniques in your workd, too. Come in the store and check out the book, which we offer for $11.70, less than the publisher’s list price of $12.99. Or call the store at 925-362-9595 and we’ll put one aside for you.

Copic Markers Class – and Discount

Posted by: kjwinston on: December 31, 2008

sw-georgia-copic-allCheck out our Miss Georgia! She made these cards with Copic markers. Georgia created these cards in preparation for a class she is going to take from the Copic people in January so she can come back to Stampers and teach a class about them in the store on Feburary 26.  Check out the class schedule on our website.

sw-georgia-copic-detail-2Copics are alcohol-based markers, so that means they are especially blendable. Look at some of the coloration Georgia achieved on the flower’s petals! Intense! In addition to being extremely blendable, Copics are long-lasting. They are refillable and have replaceable nibs, so you should never have to throw one away or buy a replacement. They come in color  sets of 12 ($64.25), 36 ($192.80) and 72  ($385.40) and we will be taking orders for them at the store. Our prices are SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER than the prices on the Copic site!!!  Call Georgia at 925-362-9595 or come on by the store to see her personal set for yourself. Then order from us and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SCRAP AND STAMP STORE!

For inspiration, check out the gallery on the Copic site! Georgia is going to submit her cards to the Copic people for consideration for their gallery, so let’s all wish her luck!swe-georgia-copic-detail

Scrap With Your Bra Off

Posted by: kjwinston on: December 30, 2008

sw-ask-the-mastersThat’s the advice of  page designer Torry Scott in the new book Ask the Masters: Scrapbook Solutions from the Memory Makers Masters that we have in the store now. “I take off my bra. Seriously,” Scott says in a question-and-answer section with major Memory Makers designers. “I truly believe my bra cuts off the creative flow of energy at my solar plexus, thus preventing it from reaching my hands. So OFF IT COMES!” Alrighty then – you heard Ms. Scott. You all have permission to scrap braless. I think we should try it at the store on our Friday and Saturday after hours “crop-til- you-drop” sessions. Might give new meaning to the name of the sessions! The rest of the book is just as sassy and informative, with each double page spread addressing a down-to-earth question and offering up some practical advice in both words and pictures of layouts. Among my favorites were, “I want to infuse my marriage – I mean my wedding pages – with pizzazz. Got any ideas?” and “I have discovered that life truly is all about me, so what are some creative wasy to scrapbook about myself?” You’ll have to drop by the store and look through the book to find the answers. By the way – we sell the book for less than the $22.99 cover price and amazon.com price!

sw-bralessNow look – last Saturday we took Torry’s advice at “crop til you drop.” AND IT DID FREE UP THE CREATIVITY. At least for Pam, on the right.
